Meet Makayla

Makayla, is a Board Certified Functional Nutrition Practitioner, Certified Functional Nutrition Counselor, CEO, Owner of Perspective Practice.

Makayla was born in Oregon but has spent most of her life in Alaska. Makayla has shown interest in nutrition starting at an early age and longed to understand more about how her nutrition affected her performance in bodybuilding, endurance running races, motocross, and all her passions that involved movement.

Makayla lives in Wasilla just an hour from Anchorage, Alaska with her husband Chris, sons Cooper and Harvey, and her dog Lucy. In addition to food, she enjoys mountain biking, hiking, yoga, running and photography.

After high school, she joined the Air Force Reserves as a Security forces officer, then later switched over to the Air National Guard . During her time in service, she gained more experience working in the civilian sector as a juvenile justice officer and as a process server.

After separating from the military in 2019 and becoming a mom she pivoted her career focus into entirely different field, functional nutrition, working through her own health struggles, using her knowledge from the Functional Nutrition Alliance. She found her-calling in life to help humans, as a Board Certified Functional Nutrition Practitioner. She believes that everything up to this point in her life has prepared her for this role.

She opened her practice last year, A practice that offers Personalized Functional Health & Wellness care to individuals that are struggling to manage their chronic health conditions. Conditions that range from traumatic brain injury to cancer, to-heart disease to, endometriosis. She understands that doing a full assessment of someone’s health is key to positive sustainable health outcomes as well as utilizing specific tools that focus on the person, not just their diagnosis we are changing the way we do healthcare. We’re working functionally and are able to guide clients to connect & navigate what’s going on inside their bodies with their why and make it meaningful for them.

Since, opening up her practice in 2023, she speaks around the community at events, works integratively with other local practitioners and teaches Functional Wellness Workshops to businesses, groups and organizations. Her passion incorporates a blend of holistic and integrative therapies to incorporate what will be most helpful for each client. With eagerness and active listening, she works closely with each client to educate, empower and inspire personal growth in their wellness journey.
